Cruising

Today we are traveling up the coast to Long Beach and tonight we will stay aboard the Queen Mary. Tomorrow we transfer to the Carnival Inspiration for a five day cruise to Catalina Island and Mexico. I have no idea what Internet coverage there will be, I suspect little as we are in steel rooms on the ship. WiFi is available, at a cost of about $1 per minute -sack that. So our next blog may not be until next weekend.

Introduction

It had long been our plan to tour the United States. We have caravanned in the UK for many years so it seemed obvious to buy a caravan in the US. Now that we had retired we wanted to take our time, not just a few weeks at a time, as we had done before. Sally has CFS/M.E. and we need to plan travelling very carefully. We do not want to travel much more than a couple of hours a day, with plenty of days off. How best to accomplish this? After much thought we used our first trip to buy our own Travel Trailer and Tow Vehicle, which we keep in the U.S.

We started our trips to the USA in 2007 and have tried to make two trips per year since then.
For all of our visits we have written a blog, each blog is a written and pictoral record of the things that we have done and the places we have visited.
This page is where we can find a reference to the blog of each of our trips.
The blogs were originally a way of enabling our friends and relatives to keep up with us while we were away, as well as providing a record of where we went and what we did.

Where We Went
As a general strategy our first base camp was Florida, then the South East United States. After that we have traveled across the South until we ended up in California. Using California as a base we are now exploring the South West USA.

What We Did
We have pursued a range of interests which have loosely fallen into the themes of: Music, the growth of the American Nation, Geology and People. The growth of the American Nation has had different emphases in different parts. In the East it is Civil Rights and Civil War. In the West it is the relationship between US and Mexico/Spain. Also pioneers, gold and water.
We hope that this record will provide some amusement for those who would read on.
